Porch Swing

from 125.00

Old photos show how things change... and how they don't. At my parent's, the porch has a view of the same old fence line, but with new wire and posts that have been driven fast and perfect by air combustion machines. I complained about digging fence holes, hated the post hole digger. It's in the shed now, covered in webs by that black and yellow spider particular to Tennessee farms. I swear the spider knows I fear it. When I walk near, it bounces on the web to spook me - it works. Can't wait till winter kills him. No fears of having to fight the spider for the post hole digger. Dad won't ask me to use it ever again. When we sit on the porch swing – summer or winter – Dad reminds me of what a bad farmer I would have made. He's right, but I still love the farm, don't want it to change. Want the same old man to tend the fence line and bitch at me for not crossing his fence at the wooden corner posts. Want him to always remind me, “if barb wire sags, the feeder calves will get out, and you're chasing them down.” The fence line and the old man don't change, don't want them to.
